I just love the Imperial March... heh~
RISE LORD VADER...
The opening was great with a grand Star Wars battle over Coruscant. There were the Jedi fighters and the S-Wings against the droid ships. Those small destroyer droids on Obi-wan's ship was cute. They started cutting his ship up piece-by-piece. Especially when they tried to attack R2D2... HAHA!
Then, I noticed that the battle droids are stupid. They talk stupid, act stupid and get cut up so easily. I had expected a bit more from them. And there was the General Grevious... props for the 4 lightsabers. I was like STUNned by the battle with Grevious and Obi-wan. But, Count Dooku got chopped up too easily~ by Anakin.
The story had the premise to be great epic. Almost a really thought provoking, multi-layered show. But I had felt a lil' let down after the show ended.
The relationship between Anakin and Padme was a little weak in my opinion.
Relationships are rarely so brief and bland. Did they look like a couple in love? I didn't. It was really platonic. The short bits about Anakin saving Padme by joining the dark side seemed contrived. It's not a lacking of ability on the actors part that I am criticizing. I just believe the script was a little weak in a few areas.
Anakin really succumbed easily to the dark side, didn't he? I expected a Jedi Knight on the verge of becoming a Jedi Master to be a 'lil stronger willed.
"Strong in the force, he is," said Yoda, "but troubled, this one is also..."
It was almost like Sidious here said, "Join me." And, then, Anakin replies, "Yea, Why not? I got nothing better to do this afternoon anyway." I did not think he was the tortured soul I read about in the reviews. I had expected the slow and devious breaking of Anakin's will through manipulation and the seduction of his logic. But a few words here and there from Sidious and he goes and kills Mace Windu.
I was definitely expecting a more political show with the conflict between the Galactic Senate and the Jedi Council. This was a plot aspect that was not properly explored. The ramifications of the seperatists versus the galactic alliance war was not fully detailed. One would expect the usual horrors of war to be at least touched on.
The Jedi 'holocaust' sequence was also cut short. Perhaps this was done to safeguard the feelings of the Jewish community? The Jedi Knights order was decimated, and it was nothing short of genocide. I believe this to be one of the important events in the Star Wars universe, and it only got a short 5~6 minutes.
Anakin walks into the temple...
Then a few Jedi gets shot in the back.
The kid gets shot by clone troopers with Bail Organa watching.
and thats was it... et tu?
I liked the final battle sequence. Obi-wan rushes to that lava planet to confront Anakin. It's like those chinese action movies where the blood-brothers have to kill each other. The setup was great because of their relationship and the inherent tension between them. Anakin looked well and truly evil there...
The rise of Lord Vader was also a 'lil weak, in my opinion. But that was probably because I had sat throught the whole movie.
There was a lot of things going on in that movie. There was so many things that they could have and should have touched on. And, too little time to capture and explore all the plotlines. Therefore, the script seems a little weak at times. And, that the story was not as epic as it could have been.
I went to watch a great movie. But instead, I got a dumbed down, action movie for the kids
